The 1920’s had many important events that changed history. Everything seemed to have blossomed during this time period. There were cultural changes with the role of women in society. Technology really advanced with the electric appliances, telephone, and etc. The economy also increased majorly, that is before it crashed. There was also some important amendments passed, that impacted our government and culture.
The Roaring twenties was when everything seemed to be at its climax. The 1920’s had a huge effect on how our society works today. At the start of the century the 18th and 19th amendment were passed. The 18th amendment caused prohibition, which was when the making and selling of alcohol was illegal. Though it did not stop the drinking instead an underground liquor trade and bars were started. The goal of prohibition was to make the city better, but that didn't necessarily happen. Later after the 1920’s the 21st amendment repealed prohibition.
The 19th amendment was also passed at the start of the century which gave women the right to vote. Along with this amendment women could have a career and take care of a family. Before women were not allowed to work outside the home. women who did work outside the home were looked down on. They were to be at home taking care of the children and taking care of the home. A lot of women today have careers and families. In today's economy many families need that extra income form the women working outside the home.
The economy doubled during this time period. Americans at this time had a lot of extra money to spend. They spent money on clothes, theaters, technology, and automobiles. Our society is very similar to the way it was then. Automobiles had become a necessity as they are now today. But this great economy went to nothing when stock market crashed in 1929, the Great Depression hit. These are some of the impacts the 1920’s had on they way we live today.
